I am back in Lima, Peru and glad I have taken the time to find out more about this city. My first impressions of Lima was that it was a dump (see my blog of the 29th April). However this time I am staying in the much nicer area of Miraflores, about a 30 minute trip from the airport. Headed off this morning for a 7km walk to Chorrillos, where I was told the best ceviche in the world is found. (Well, that was what I saw on an Anthony Bourdain show once: No reservations - 2006!). The walk was really interesting. This is the financial capital of Peru and the wealth is pretty obvious with nice roads, apartments and parks. One district, Barranco, had a stack of colonial style houses and what looked like palaces. I did get surprised when I saw a platoon of fully armed soldiers walking down the well heeled streets
Trivia fact is that Paddington Bear is originally from "darkest" Peru where he was brought up by his Aunt Lucy after he was orphaned following an earthquake. When Aunt Lucy went to live in the Home for Retired Bears in Lima, she decided to send him to England to live. (Hence the tag "please look after this bear"). Funnily enough there is a Paddington statue designed by British comedian Stephen Fry on the Miraflores boardwalk.
I finally got to the Restaurant "Sonia" which has the best cevichería in town, supposedly since the owner is a fisherman and his wife (Sonia) is the cook. The restaurant is hidden behind a wooden door and of course the ceviche was sensational. https://www.restaurantsonia.com/
