An early start as we began a three hour canoe trip (with more wildlife discoveries, including a short jungle walk) to the village of Taricaya. This community was nomadic until about 50 years ago when the advancing petrochemical industry forced them into sedentary communities. Upon arrival we visited the Shaman, the communities healer. He explained how his methods worked, gave us some samples of some of his tonics including Ayahuasca and also proceeded to show us a traditional healing ceremony. We then moved to another part of the village where another of the local women showed us how to prepare Casabe a traditional food made from Yucca. This was lunch but at 3pm in the afternoon! We made our way back to the lodge then another swim (with piranhas?). That night we did a short walk around the jungle near the lodge and came across a rainbow boa (not 30m from where we were sleeping. Our wild animal count continued today, but the highlight was a tame pet Capybara (huge guinea pig) in the village that made weird sounds when it was patted.
