Day 3 in the Amazon

An early start with some more exploration of the river to find even more animals. We then motored up the river to a walk in pristine rainforest. It was supposed to be about 1.5 hours but 4 hours later we emerged having been soaked by rain, nearly drowned in creek crossings, and having our guide teach us about the animals and plants found in the area. There were quite a few bullet ants. The bullet ant's sting is considered one of the most painful in the world, with victims often describing it as feeling like being shot with a bullet. The pain can last for up to 24 hours, and some victims experience muscle paralysis and hallucinations. The walk was a fantastic experience. Although we never saw it, we did manage to find some pretty fresh jaguar prints in the soft mud. Thoroughly drenched and muddy we then took another swim in the lake before heading back to the lodge for a well earned rest. Later that evening we learn't how to make chocolate from the cocoa beans we had seen yesterday in the village. That night Alice played with a tarantula.....
