It was with a little sadness that we said goodbye to our lodge in the Amazon. The amazing guides and location had made this the trip of a lifetime to experience. The sights and sounds were incredible, but before we left the three of us (with guide) took a private paddle canoe trip downstream for one last look at this amazing place. Leaving at sunrise, the only noise was the sound of the forest and the rain. It was the prefect way to end our Amazon experience.

The trip back to the departure wharf was done in torrential rain, not surprising I guess given that we were in the Amazon rainforest, but it didn't stop pelting down for at least an hour of the trip. We arrived at the wharf pretty much soaked, and then took a taxi for the the 4 hour ride back to Coco for the overnight stop. Interestingly our driver decided to take a "short-cut" which did not appear on any of our mapping apps. We came across a river barge in the middle of nowhere which managed to get us to the other side of a pretty intense river without too much difficulty. It kind of summed up this part of Ecuador: exciting, interesting, completely different, weird and worth experiencing.
