Visited Hawkshead to see the Beatrice Potter Museum (but it was shut) - Never mind, I then drove to Coniston then to Ambleside and then finished up at Grasmere. It's been a wet, cold day so not too many steps. The countryside is spectacular and so scenic. Bought a steak from a farm shop today for dinner (he kills and sells his own animals). Also purchased some famous gingerbread from Sarah Nelson's gingerbread shop in Grasmere. Leave tomorrow for Darlington to see if I can find William James Forrest (My great great grandfather)..... Would highly recommend a visit to the Lakes District, but it is the wettest place in the UK so bring a raincoat!
