Yesterday was a travel day back to Santiago, so it was an early start for the bus back to Calama for the flight to Santiago. Overnighted at the airport, as it was another early start for my flight to Lima, Peru. Even though the flight is only four hours it seems to take a whole day with the 3 hour before flight checkin. Only in Lima for a couple of days before another early flight to Cusco and a few days exploring the sacred valley of the incas. Next week I have more time to checkout Lima, but where I am staying this time is near the airport. I should have suspected something was up when I had to pass at least 3 guards on security outside the hotel. After dumping my bag I decided to go for a walk around the area. - bad move - between rabid dogs and streets that looked like a third world prison I made my way back to the hotel. Further investigation on the area over a beer stated it was the most dangerous place in Lima. However, it was interesting to see the street vendors selling enormous variety's of potatoes and meat, fish and poultry with no refrigeration at all.
