The towering Licancabur Volcano reaches 5920m (19,423 feet) into the sky, and everywhere you wander in this town it dominates the views. Today was a rest day (and a chance to get used to the altitude.) So I just wandered around the clay streets along with hundreds of other (mainly young) tourists. The main square was quite nice and there seemed to be a lot of stalls selling coca leaves. The square also was the location of the church of San Pedro de Atacama which is believed to be the 2nd oldest church in Chile. There are hundreds of shops here selling tours of things to see in the desert, so I booked a tour for tomorrow afternoon. There are also hundreds of shops selling local artisan products but most look like they have been made in China!
