The Sacred Valley (Part 2)

Today made my way through the Sacred Valley to Pisac before heading back to Cusco for my last night in the Peruvian Andes. There is so much to see and do here, I should have allowed a few more days, but truthfully after Machu Picchu more Inca ruins become a little less exciting, and there are so many of them. There are also the "Peru factors" to consider, mainly the crappy roads and the confusing ticketing system for the locations. However, the friendliness of the people and the spectacular views far outweigh any negatives. The drive today was pretty nice through the towns of Yucay, Calca and Lamay, (another location where they were selling roadside BBQ guinea pigs). The town of Pisac was absolutely buzzing possibly because it was Sunday and this is the day that the local Quechua communities from the surrounding area come to town to sell their produce (much of which are completely organic) and stock up on supplies for the week.
Pisac is at the southern end of the Sacred valley and the Archeological Park is above the town. The park covers a huge area (about 65ha) and has over 500 terraces. The complex was built in the late 1400's and served a number or purposes, such as defence, palaces, farming and religious. Wandering around at 3700m above sea level still takes some effort so I'll be glad tomorrow to get back to normal oxygen!
