Our first afternoon of the cruise and we took a walk on North Seymour island to see an incredible number of blue footed boobies and frigates, especially the males with their huge red pouches used to attract the females. It was a 2 hour, but very slow hike, as there was so many amazing things to see.
Early start this morning to scale the volcano parked next to the boat. Some 380 steps later we reached the top for some magnificent views. The volcano itself looked like it had erupted yesterday but most of what we saw was from the 1890’s eruption. Our guide gave us a great lesson in geology and discussed how many of the rocks and formations occurred. A quick stop back on the boat for breakfast, then it was back in the rubber duckies for a snorkel along the coast in gin clear water. An amazing view of starfish, tropical fish and the occasional seal was brilliant. Back to the boat for lunch, then another snorkel and lava walk this afternoon.
